As an experienced OCELT/TESL-certified PBLA-trained ESL instructor (3+ years), and a former professor (12 years), I understand and appreciate the importance of a solid grounding in the English language. I believe my fifteen years of experience designing and delivering programs, courses, units/modules and lessons for culturally diverse learners makes me a perfect candidate for this position.
I have been supply-teaching ESL for LINC programs for over three years. I have had the pleasure of working with more than 1,000 newcomers from all over the world, with English language skills ranging from CLB 0-2 to 6-8. I also joined Conestoga College as sessional instructor for two OSLT programs offered to internationally trained professionals – Workplace Communication Skills for Professional Managers and for Health Sciences.
In my classroom (online or in-person) I create a lively, inclusive atmosphere characterized by mutual respect, enthusiasm, and humour. I frequently create my own lessons incorporating students’ interests and Canadian cultural content within whichever curriculum is provided. My objective is to foster self- directed learning, helping newcomers stretch their linguistic limits and achieve their goals.
